Congratulations! You are getting closer to collecting your lifetime monthly benefit. To start paying your benefit, PERA requires you to complete and submit a valid retirement application 60-90 days before retirement.
Getting Ready to Retire
Eligibility
You will receive your full, unreduced benefit if you are at full retirement age or older when your pension begins. However, if you choose to retire early, you will receive a reduced benefit amount because it will be paid to you for a longer period.
Separate from Public Employment
PERA law requires a complete separation from all Minnesota public service for 30 days. See the application process for termination requirements.
