2026 Federal and Minnesota Tax Forms Now Available

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Minnesota Department of Revenue have released the 2026 tax forms.

PERA benefits are subject to federal and state taxes (based on your residency). PERA can withhold state taxes for Minnesota residents. If you are not a Minnesota resident, contact your state for tax requirements.

If you are collecting a monthly benefit from PERA and wish to adjust your tax withholding, you may change your taxes at any time on myPERA or by sending us the completed tax forms below.

If you plan to apply for benefits in 2026 and wish to withhold a different amount than the default, send us the completed tax forms below with your application.

Federal Tax Forms

Form W-4P: Complete this form for monthly benefits (retirement, survivor, or disability) to withhold a different amount than the default (Single, 0 exemptions). Visit About Form W-4P on the IRS website for more information.

Form W-4R: Complete this form for a refund to withhold more than the default (20%). This form must be included with your refund application. Visit About Form W-4R on the IRS website for more information.

Minnesota State Tax Form

Form W-4MNP: Complete this form for monthly benefits (retirement, survivor, or disability) or a refund to withhold a different amount than the default (6.25%).
