2026 Annual Increases
PERA Announces 2026 Increases for Benefit Recipients
Effective January 1, 2026, the PERA annual benefit increase for eligible retirees and benefit recipients is
- 1.75% if you are in the Coordinated, Basic, or MERF Plan,
- 2.5% if you are in the Correctional Plan, and
- 3.0% if you are in the Police & Fire, Minneapolis Police, or Minneapolis Fire Plans and you started benefits on or before January 1, 2025.
Minn. Stat. § 356.415 and session laws determine annual increases for your monthly benefit.
Percentage increases for Coordinated and Correctional Plan retirees and benefit recipients are tied to the consumer price index the Social Security Administration uses. According to statute, the Coordinated Plan increase ranges from 1–1.75% each year. The Correctional Plan increase ranges from 1–2.5% each year. Police & Fire recipients who started benefits on or before January 1, 2025 will receive a 3% increase in 2026. The annual increase will be 1% in 2027 and future years for eligible recipients.
What is my new benefit amount?
Your 2026 benefit amount is not processed at this time, and PERA benefit specialists cannot tell you your new 2026 benefit amount.
Beginning December 18, you can view your new benefit amount in your myPERA account. In myPERA, you’ll also find tax and other withholding information related to your new benefit amount.
New to receiving PERA benefits?
You may be eligible for an increase on January 1, 2026. For many benefit recipients, there is a required waiting period before you receive your first increase. Your first increase might be less than the full increase, depending on the type of benefit you are receiving, the plan, and your benefit effective date. After your first increase, you will receive full annual increases starting on the next January 1.
