Status Changes

Employers are responsible for keeping member records current. Report all employment status changes timely. This helps PERA provide accurate information, benefit estimates, and process applications for the members.

Termination of Public Service

Termination is the end of the work relationship between an employer and employee. Individuals must complete a continuous separation from public employment for 30 days. There cannot be a written or verbal agreement to provide services to any Minnesota governmental employer; nor can the individual return to their former public employer within 30 days as an independent contractor or an employee of an independent contractor.
